Jake on CNN and PBS This Week
Nvidia, the fight over AI laws, and Musk saying crazy s**t about work being optional in the future had me on national television more than once this week.
I’m not usually one for earnings calls — I find that business reporting on that kind of stuff is like sports reporting, in that it’s usually written by fans — but this week’s Nvidia earnings was a referendum on the AI bubble, on the weird circular financing of the industry, and on the near-religious certainty of AI makers that 20% unemployment is the right price to pay for the utopia AI will usher in. So when my former colleage Kaisie Hunt invited me onto CNN to talk it all through, I was happy to oblige:
Turns out my week on TV wasn’t over, though. On Wednesday, word began to circulate that Trump was preparing to ban state AI laws by executive order, in the face of enormous political opposition.
If you haven’t watched my summary of the issue, you can check it out here, and you can read my new column on the subject for Hard Reset. Meanwhile, I got to cover the story for PBS NewsHour on Thursday:
I love the rigor and, frankly, the pressure of TV appearances, and it was very gratifying to find that I still have that capability. (I’m staying sharp by appearing on podcasts more or less each day, a process I’ll be documenting in a future post.) Thanks for watching!
